JOY = Baloo from the Jungle Book
The character that most embodies my relation to the emotion of joy is Baloo from the “Jungle Book”. Baloo is a very optimistic and carefree character that plays a major role in not only guiding the main protagonist, Mowgli, but also keeping his spirits high as well.. In many ways I relate to his nonchalant attitude towards life when I am feeling full of joy. When in a good mood I tend not to care as much about minor details. When I am feeling happy I become more at ease in almost all aspects of my life. Even in situations where I am usually stressed. I also identify with wanting to make the people around me more joyful. I find when I am happy it is hard to keep it to myself.
SADNESS = Juice Wrld (Musical Artist)
Juice Wrld is a celebrity that captures my feelings of sadness perfectly. He is no stranger to expressing his raw emotions and depression in his music which has made him a major source of consolation for his listeners. Even with themes of depression in his songs he kept a certain light-hearted, playful aspect in his songs as well which I connect with. The feeling of sadness is not always so one-dimensional and can often be masked. I tend not to deal with my emotions head on, so in that regard I relate to Juice Wrld and his expression of sadness.
FEAR = Elsa from Frozen
Elsa is a character that represents my feelings of fear. In the film “Frozen” she is constantly bombarded with anxieties around not wanting to hurt anyone with her powers for her family’s sake. She is self-doubting and generally risk-averse. In many ways I relate to these same feelings. Constant pressure to live up to a certain ideal puts an immense fear of failure. Failure to live up to that standard causes you to think less of yourself. I think Elsa embodies my feelings of fear and anxiety very well.
ANGER = Playboi Carti (Musical Artist)
Playboi Carti and his music as of late embodies what I feel when I feel angry. His music shifted to a much more aggressive, punk-influenced sound that perfectly fits my mood when I am feeling frustrated. His music is more so focused on capturing an emotion rather than trying to communicate a specific idea. When I personally am angry I find myself in a very similar situation. I am less logical and more instinctual. Many of Carti’s songs reflect that seeing that they have a primal quality to them. He utilizes very compressed, distorted drums under a repetitive, entrancing melody along with his very expressive voice to achieve this effect.
DISGUST = Marion Moseby (Mr. Moseby) from the Suite Life of Zack and Cody
Mr. Moseby is a character I remember as being very easily annoyed and having a very low-tolerance for bad behavior. He was constantly fed up with Zack and Cody’s antics that were all too common. I find that having younger cousins often puts me in a similar position to Mr. Moseby in many instances. Whether they are playing with things they are not supposed to or being places they are not supposed to be, I end up becoming the grumpy, uptight “adult” that hates having fun.
